Operationalization of MACPPA in Senegal

As part of the deployment of the digital platform MACPPA, a delegation from the Intergovernmental Organization for Information and Cooperation on the Marketing of Fisheries Products in Africa (INFOPÊCHE) went to Dakar, Senegal, from March 22 to 25, 2026 for a working visit.

This delegation led by the Director of INFOÊCHE, Mr. AKAFFOU Atsé Éric, accompanied by his collaborator Mr. N'DA N'da Brice, webmaster was received by Mr. Assane SOW, Head of the Division Valorization of Fishery Products and his collaborators.

The objective of this mission was to put into service the backoffice of the MACPPA digital platform for Senegal, to hand over the different administrator access codes, to register actors from the fishing industry and to know the ecosystem of the Senegalese sector.

During the work meeting, the Director of INFOPÊCHE presented the achievements and new features of the MACPPA platform (African Market for the Marketing of Fishery and Aquaculture Products), and stressed that the MACPPA platform is a common tool for all member countries, facilitating access to commercial information, linking actors and enhancing the value of fisheries and aquaculture products. This Platform takes into account the national specificities of each country in order to ensure its effectiveness, robustness and adaptation to local realities.

Thus, Mr. Cheikh FALL solemnly received from the hands of Mr. AKAFFOU Atsé Casimir Éric the access codes for the administration of the MACPPA platform in Senegal, which is one of the pilot countries of the project. The Director Cheikh Fall was trained in using the features of the back office of Senegal by the Director of INFOPÊCHE.

It was at the Yoff landing quay that the field visits for the operationalization of the MACPPA began. The INFOPÊCHE delegation, accompanied by Mr. Assane SOW and Collaborators, continued the registration tour of the fishmongers at the Pikine central fish market and at the Hann landing site.

This mission laid the concrete foundations for the deployment of the MACPPA in Senegal, combining presentation, transfer of tools and involvement of professionals in the sector.
